Marketing

In order to have a successful business we have to figure out a marketing strategy early on. Making the products and selling them to the same customers over and over again is not enough to sustain us. We constantly need to be researching and testing ways to gain new customers.
First, we need to make our business unique; let’s face it, there’s a ton of people doing the same thing we’re doing. How can we make ourselves stand out?

Sometimes it’s the little things.

1. A handwritten note with each order. (You can utilize a script font and your sketch pens for this and no one will know the difference.)

2. Track your customers birthdays and send an extra special coupon 1 month before that expires at the end of their birthday month. Maybe 50% off one item. They will treat themselves to that one item and order something else they’ve been eyeballing because they know they will be saving money. Customers love to save money and they love knowing you remember them.

3. Always include a surprise gift, throw in a piece of candy or a decal; do something small that doesn’t take much time but makes you stand out from the rest. Something that makes the customer feel like you thought about them and went the extra mile.

Remember the small things. Don’t forget. These are important.

Secondly, you need to learn to promote your business.

1. Don’t be afraid to ask for referrals. If you’ve completed a customers sign and you know it is exactly what he/she wanted and they are ecstatic about it, ask them to tag you in their Facebook posts. Ask them to send their friends and family your way if they need any custom work done. If you don’t ask, they may not remember to tell people. You asking will stick in their mind. If someone in their circle of friends needs a service you have…and you’ve done a GREAT job…trust me, they WILL recommend you.

2. Ask customers to leave reviews on your business page. Offer them an incentive if you need to. Give them 10% off their next order. Each review you have allows you to look more respected in your respective field. These are GOLD. Don’t forget to ask for them.

Know your competition

Review your competitors. Don’t copy them. Check them out. Swoon over their success. Find what works for them. Check out their marketing. Check out their photography skills. Check out how often they post to social media. Take notes. You can learn the best business advice from looking at the businesses you one day aspire to be like. Everyone started somewhere. They grew with their mistakes and now they are successful. You can learn from what model they use now. Once again, this is for inspiration. You are your own business and you want to stand out. Take notes but DON’T COPY. Find what you like and implement it in your own style.

Lastly, you have to remember to take care of yourself.

1. Create a routine now and stick with it. This is a work at home job but you should treat it as a career if that’s what you want it to be. Scheduling is super important. Have work hours and make sure your taking care of your business during these hours.

2. Make time to work out daily. I know you think this has nothing to do with a business but taking care of yourself is of upmost importance. If you haven’t worked out in years, start with a 10 minute walk around the block. Walk everyday for a week and try to double your time the following week. You will have more energy and your ability to focus will increase. Try to eventually work up to 30-45 minutes a day or physical activity. Make sure to write in in your schedule and stick to your routine.

3. Meditate. Keep an ongoing list of creative ideas. Keep a journal. Take it with you everywhere you go. If you see something that inspires you, write it down. Your an artist and you always need to be thinking about the next big thing. The next big idea. How to make something your own.

Stay inspired. Inspire. Create.

In closing, I would love to know if you do anything now to make your customers feel special. What do you implement that keeps people loyal to your brand.

If you’re not currently doing anything but plan on implementing something in the future, what do you think will work best?

Until tomorrow….
