Facing Fears

The first thing I want to tell all of you is to focus on growth.
When you started this journey it was just you and your machine. Have you gotten 1 order yet? Maybe you have completed 3 orders and you have those people raving about your work. Those little steps are growth.

Fear of failure is real; but, how will you ever know how far you could go if you never put yourself out there. If you never work up the courage to try.

Just know there will be ups and downs. That’s life. That comes with marriage, friendships, raising children, employment….and your business venture will be no different.

The most successful people will most likely tell you that they have had more failures than successes, but those “failures” taught them lessons that brought them to where they are today. Within each failed attempt at something lies a lesson. What lesson will you let it teach you? How can you learn and grow and keep reaching on?

Whatever you do, don’t be so hard on yourself. You are not the only one that has been in this spot. You are not the only one who has faced this fear. Learn, grow and keep moving forward.

Second, let’s go back to your journals. Everyday you need to reflect on what happened that was “positive”. I don’t care if it was the worst day in the world for you…something positive must have come out of it.

Positive self talk will do more for you than you realize. I know many people think it is a dumb idea but it literally lifts you and your spirits up. When you can forget the negative for a second and think about how well you’re doing, it makes you want to keep going.

Always outweigh the negative with the positive.
.………………………………

You have this amazing group to come to and ask for advice and help. Utilize it. You don’t have to go at all this alone. Did a project not go exactly as you imagined? Share and ask why. There’s so many talented people in here that would love to help you figure out what went wrong and how to fix it.

On the other hand, you have an amazing group of people to share when something goes right. And tell me it doesn’t feel good to share a project and have everyone swoon over it. It’s another pick-me-Upper that keeps you going and helps you feel like you’re on the right track. Utilize it.

.………………………………

Remember regrets are worse than failure. You don’t want to look back 5 years from now and wish you had started now so just do it.

.………………………………

I know some of you are scared of client acquisition. How will you find customers? The market is so saturated and everyone is doing what you’re doing. No one will want your signs and no one will pay you what you’re worth. If these are your thoughts, change your mindset or just stop now. You will never get anywhere with these negative thoughts.

Approach your work with joy. You started this because you enjoy it. Go to work (home) with a great attitude. Make sure your attitude shows your customers how confident you are. They will buy into you as a person and the quality and talent you put in your signs will be a bonus. *YOU* can set yourself apart.

.………………………………

Practice, practice, practice. I don’t care if you’ve been doing this 15 years. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. Always be perfecting your craft.

.………………………………
Ok, flip side. You are scared of success. What if everyone has been waiting for exactly what you have to offer. What if people are lining up literally around the block to be able to order something from you. What if you walk away from it all because you melt under the pressure????

Sounds crazy and seems counterintuitive but there are a lots of people that fear success. Read this quote by Marianne Williamson

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

What to do now: Take a deep breath. Repeat after me, “I am worth it and I will do this for me. I have an amazing talent and I won’t let it go to waste. I can’t wait to show the world what I have to offer.”

Pricing:

I read once about a lady who owned a jewelry store in a tourist area. Every summer tons of tourists came in and shopped at her store. She had a shipment of jewelry in that she was trying to sell. She tried moving it around the store. One day at the front. No purchases. The next day in the middle of the store. No bites. She didn’t understand why they wouldn’t sell and she didn’t want to mess with it anymore. She was leaving to go out of town and she left her employee a note that said sell everything in this case at 1/2 price.

When she returned from vacation she was happy to see it had all sold as she figured it would. What she was surprised to learn was it all sold for double. The employee had misread the note and thought it said to sell everything for x2 pricing.

She learned that people thought that since the jewelry was more, it must be more valuable. People correlate value with pricing. We all think everyone wants something for nothing but that’s not true. There are many customers out there that want to pay for quality. Not run of the mill work.

The jeweler continued to employ this sales tactic with the rest of her items. She doubled all the prices and occasionally had “sales” of 1/2 price items which really brought things back down to the price she wanted in the beginning. She finally figured out how to be successful.

Take this and learn. Think about it when you do your pricing model.
